Bailey tends to think life is like a television show, book, & or film. This way of thinking has fucked her up royally. She over analyzes everything to death, until there is nothing left. She also tends to depend on men for happiness. Her goal; to stop all of that.@3 hours ago with 24 notesI got this book on Amazon for only a penny and another book by her for $2 because they were listed as similar to Love is a Mix Tape: Life and Loss, One Song at a Time By Rob Sheffield. I’m still not really sure how I feel about it. I read it in only a few hours because it’s short and very simply written, but there’s something about it. Maybe I’m just reading it at the right time. It’s about a young woman recovering from a severe heartbreak with her messed up best friend by her side. If you follow either 6od or missmlady then you’ll probably like it because these two characters remind me of them in a lot of ways. The kind of relationship and unwavering devotion to someone who has been there through it all and will never give up on you.
The characters persist through drinking, fights, messed up relationships, screwed up family lives, heartbreak and sadness but underneath is this need to push on and the longing for some deeper meaning to it all. An underlying strength begging to break free of all the pain and bullshit people put each other through, yet at the same time they’re so incredibly vulnerable. They’re too smart and know too many pop culture references but can barely navigate through their own emotional short-comings. The whole book is written in a blend of journal entries, conversations, letters and stream of consciousness ramblings. That’s it.
I think if I would have read it at any other time in my life I would have thought these girls were annoying and wasting their time pining over men, but there’s something about human confusion and sadness that is universal no matter the situation. Something about hope, even if they act hopeless.
@3 hours ago with 1 note“Hold on. Let me finish. See, guys are like dogs, Jules. You know when a dog pees on the floor and you come home hours later and slap him with a newspaper?”
“I would never slap a dog with a newspaper.”
“Okay, Doris Day, well, a lot of people do. But it doesn’t work.”
“Of course it doesn’t work. Corporal punishment-“
“Julia, shut up for a minute. Anyway, the reason it doesn’t work is because the dog has already forgotten about pissing on the floor. He’s thinking of which shoe he wants to chew up and he’s totally confused as to why you’re hitting him and screaming no”
“And guys have the IQ of dogs?”
“No, but drunk guys do. They do dumb stuff and if you don’t punish them right away, it won’t do any good.”
